Glass that isn’t Glassware
Now that we know how best to clean the glasses we drink from, we should talk about how to clean other glassware we use in our homes.
Whether it’s a pretty cut glass jug or a sturdy toughened glass measuring jug, both need to be cleaned to a gleaming shine each time they’re used.
Finish Dishwashing Salt offers limescale protection, softens water and fights water spots. This is particularly important when washing measuring jugs as, over time, any surface marks will make it difficult to read the measurements printed on the side.
Most cut glass jugs nowadays can safely be put in the dishwasher. To avoid chips make sure your cut glass piece isn’t touching anything else in the dishwasher. Opt for the coolest wash as high temperatures can crack fragile glass and if your machine has a china and crystal setting then use that. However, it is a good idea to check your glassware is dishwasher safe with the manufacturer.
Burnt on pasta bake or red wine sauce is no fun to get off a casserole dish – particularly if you’ve re-heated leftovers in the same dish meaning food remains are well and truly welded to the side of it! Never take a scouring pad to a glass dish – you’ll just scratch it. Instead, place it on the bottom rack of the dishwasher, facing downwards, so it gets a good flow of water over it. Be sure to scrape off any pasta or rice first though; as they will simply block the dishwasher drain after the cycle.
Dirty flower water leaves slimy, smelly residue on beautiful glass vases that, over time, can dull the vases surface and spoil floral arrangements. Providing the vase will safely stand upside down on the lower rack of your dishwasher and that it is dishwasher safe, there is no reason why you can’t let your machine take the strain of removing that horrible film. Ensure you remove any dead leaves that are stuck to the sides. Set your dishwasher to its coolest setting and be kind to the environment.
To protect your glasses from glass corrosion and décor fading use Finish Dish and Glass Protector in conjunction with your normal detergent. Finish Dish and Glass Protector has been designed to protect your dishes against glass-cloudiness to keep them looking new for longer.
